"The Diary of a Young Girl"- Anne Frank

I read the entry written on Wednesday, July 8th, 1942. Anne Frank begins by stating that she is still alive and definitely lucky to be living. Her sister, Margot Frank, tells her “The S.S. have sent a call-up notice for Daddy,” (Frank 13). This means that the Schutzstaffel were planning on deporting her father to a concentration camp. Later on, Anne found out that the call-up was not for her father, but for her sister, Margot. As a result of this troubling information, the sisters began to pack their belongings. Miep Gies, a Dutch citizen, delivered the Frank’s clothing and books to a secret attic where they hid out during World War II. To avoid being caught as Jews carrying suitcases, the Franks dressed in three layers of clothing as they travelled to their hiding spot.

This memoir reveals that Anne Frank was a Jewish victim of the Holocaust who proved that she possessed moral courage due to the risky actions she took to stay alive. No matter the consequences, Anne was determined to keep her family safe throughout the war, even if it meant hiding out in a secret attic for more than two years. This memoir reveals that Anne was a frightened individual, no different from any other Jew alive during World War II. However, she stands out from the rest due to the diary she kept of her great struggle and the devastating realities of the war.

The Short Life of Anne Frank

This event is significant to Anne Frank for the reason that she was leaving her home in Amsterdam, Holland that she spent her entire childhood life in. She left this home to go hideout in an attic for more than two years. Anne possessed an incredible amount of personal strength in order to leave behind her old life and start a new one where she would be fighting for her life each and every day. Leaving her home in Amsterdam, Holland will be an event Anne will never forget since it was the day she cherished her life and gained the courage she needed to keep fighting for it.
