"Suitcase Lady": Struggles

The suitcase lady deals with an unbelievable amount of struggles on a daily basis, which include:

- carrying her possessions in shopping bags

- constantly scrounging for food

- crying uncontrollably due to loneliness

- never having a safe place to spend the night

- owning very few clothes to keep her warm, resulting in swollen ankles, chapped legs, and blisters

- always having tired legs from walking around all day with no place to stay

- begging for money on the streets and managing to make about $7 or $8 a week, tragically restricting her food intake

- being treated like a worthless piece of trash by people she interacts with, but luckily there are a few kind individuals who willingly spare her some change

- sleep deprivation, “This week I sleep three hours in four days. I feel tired but I wash my face with cold water and I feel okay,” (McLaren 2)

- feeling lonely since she speaks to nobody except the rare occasion of the elderly women in the park

- her only pleasure in life is smoking cigarettes, which is definitely no way to live
